In brief:  The Mount Ivy Diner carries with pride the mantle of all hard-working people who labor to make diner restaurants unique for their dollar value and range of choices.  The food is as good as at many sleeker restaurants, and the price, a little better.

The rating:  Good

The ratings are base don the quality of the food, service and atmosphere with consideration to prices and values of the meal.

"Much has been written about the classic stainless steel and Formica look of the great American diner, so I feel no need to describe Mont Ivy in detail.  I'll just say that it is everything you expect to see in a diner, only more shiny and polished because it is so new."

"Regular-sized glasses of wine are available for $2.95-$4, depending on the varietal.  But a few sips of the sunny, yet alcohol laden, house red just hit the spot."

"Yankee bean soup was delicious, thick and orange-colored.   It was full of aromatic vegetables that gave it a sweet bouquet above the hearty bean texture."

"Our entrees were all icons of diner culture.  Hungarian goulash ($9.95) was most savory.  The very large chunks of tender lean beef came atop yellow rice, rather than over noodles.  The portion was immense, there is no other word for it."

"A surf and turf combo of stuffed lobster tail and London broil ($17.95) was quite nice for the price.  The approximately six-ounce frozen tail was cooked perfectly."

"Along with the cartoon-sized cream pies and layer cakes, there was an understated coconut custard pie whose custard just shimmered, before refreshing you like a glass of ice cold milk.  The strawberry cheesecake was top shelf quality, and the chocolate eclair was made with real custard and real chocolate."

"This is an excellent value."
